Mies Family Foods has been servicing the Kansas City area since 1968. Ralph Mies started the company selling protein products around Kansas City out of the back of his truck. His philosophy of providing superior customer service, quality products, and fair pricing has paid dividends over the years. Although the products and size of the business have changed, Ralph’s sons have carried on the same values and traditions that have made Mies Family Foods the company it is today.

About Us

The Mies Family

Mies Family Foods enjoys a state-of-the-art 25,000 square foot facility with the ability to house over 5 million pounds of frozen product and 2 million pounds of fresh product. We now have a fleet of 14 refrigerated trucks servicing the Kansas City, Omaha, and St Louis areas.

As an independent distributor with great flexibility and owners who are intimately involved in the daily operations, Mies Family Foods’ operation style simply cannot be matched by our larger competitors. We are proud of our ability to maintain customer loyalty in today’s competitive environment. Mies Family Foods is pleased to provide service to independent restaurants, regional grocery chains, specialty meat shops, further processors, and wholesalers.

Meet Our Team

Paul Mies

President And Owner

Paul has been with Mies Family Foods since 1989. After graduating from Rockhurst University Paul started his food industry experience with General Foods. It didn’t take long for Paul’s father Ralph, who started the company in 1968, to pull him into the family business. Paul and two of his brothers purchased the business in the early 90’s and continued to grow the company to what it is today. He is a steady leader within the company and exemplifies what it means to be a true partner with his customers.

Ryan Hamm

Vice President and Owner

Ryan joined the Mies team in 2014. He graduated from Kansas State University and spent the majority of his career prior to Mies with National Beef Packing Company. At National Beef he held several different roles that have helped him guide Mies into new business segments and remain competitive in the marketplace. Ryan enjoys interacting with his customers and helping them find solutions for their business. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and hanging out with friends and family.

Mark Mies


Mark Mies started with Mies Family Foods in 1986. Mark graduated from Pittsburg State University with an accounting degree. After a brief accounting career he decided to join his father Ralph to grow the family business. Mark spent his career at Mies growing everlasting relationships with his customers and suppliers. At the end of 2021 he made the difficult decision to retire and donate his time to the Catholic Church as a Deacon. Mark can still be seen at Mies Family Foods on occasion helping navigate the company.

Josh Henderson

Director of Inside Sales

Josh started his career with B&B Meat Company in 1998 after graduating from Bennedictine College where he played soccer. He held multiple roles at B&B

that gave him a well-rounded view of the distribution business. Mies purchased B&B in 2012. Josh joined the team and brought over his knowledge and experience. Josh loves to sell! It is in his blood. He has a creative nature and is able to bring value to his customers to help them succeed.

Steve Ingala

Director of Operations

Steve joined Mies Family Foods in 2009. He became the warehouse manager shortly after. He has learned almost every aspect of the business and continues to

grow every day. Steve loves a new challenge so he took it upon himself to try his hand at sales. It did not take long for him to see tremendous success. He is fluent in Spanish and has quickly grown that segment of our business.

Michael Alexander

Director of Outside Sales

Michael started with Mies Family Foods in 2017. He spends most of his time visiting new and established customers. Michael loves getting to know his customers

and doing whatever it takes to earn their business. His persistent nature has allowed him to learn the business and grow his customer base. Michael is all about building partnerships. He wants to see his customers thrive and will do all that he can to help them succeed.

Grant Gottschalk

Business Development Manager

Grant came to Mies Family Foods from Cargill Foods in 2021. He graduated from Fort Hays State University with a degree in Agricultural Business.

His attention to detail and positive attitude has been a great addition to our team. He spends a lot of his free time getting outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and traveling are among his favorite things to do. Grant strives to bring value to his customers and better position them for the future.
